The VR Biosafety Level 3 Lab Safety Training Simulator is a state-of-the-art, virtual reality-based training program, designed to provide interactive and immersive training for proper safety protocols and operations within a biosafety level 3 (BSL-3) laboratory. This initiative has been developed for the Department of Health Technology and Informatics at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. 

Through the simulator, trainees are immersed in a realistic 3D model of a BSL-3 lab where they can interact with equipment, perform procedures, and respond to potential hazards in a safe, virtual environment. Trainees can practice a variety of tasks such as the correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), proper handling and disposal of biohazardous waste, operating biosafety cabinets, undertaking experimental procedures, and executing meticulous decontamination protocols. Feedback is provided on their performance, fostering an iterative learning process. 

The ultimate goal of this VR training program is to deliver an engaging and efficient training experience that instills in trainees the importance of proper safety protocols and best practices for working in high-containment laboratory environments. The immersive, hands-on practice in a consequence-free virtual space helps prepare trainees for the real-world application of these crucial safety skills. 

By harnessing the power of VR technology and integrating it with gameplay elements, the VR Biosafety Level 3 Lab Safety Training Simulator offers a unique, efficient, and effective training approach. This project signifies a significant milestone in laboratory safety training, aiming to improve training outcomes, reduce the potential for accidents, and ensuring safe operations within high-risk BSL-3 laboratories.
